Skid plate removal and tranny support

I was looking at changing the fluid in my 32rh and wondered what y'all do about supporting the transmission and transfer case after you remove the support/ skid plate. 2002 wrangler. I guess I could support against the pan with a block of wood until I removed the support and added a jack stand. Let me know if there is a better way. Thx

It's not critical how you support it, a piece of wood or jackstand is fine.

Thanks guys! I guess I was asking about the procedure as much as anything. My plan is to support the tranny with a floor jack and block of wood to spread the load on the pan. After I remove the support I will put a jack stand in place where it bolted up so I can remove the original jack. Change my filter and fluid and reverse the process. Sound good? Also has anyone ever added an after market drain spigot so the fluid could be changed with removing the pan or even the support?

Given how infrequently one would normally be changing the trans fluid, I wouldn't bother.

Need some clarity on this, do you just lower the skid/trans, then remove the skid and raise and support trans?

Unbolt the trans mount from the skid, use a jack and a piece of wood to support the transmission/transfer case while you remove the skid plate.

Be sure to entirely remove those four small 1/2" head nuts in the center of the skidplate that attach it to the transmission mount before you unbolt/lower the skidplate away from the frame.

Because you can't change the ATF in an automatic transmission without dropping the transmission pan which requires dropping the transfer case skid plate.

i literally just did it last weekend without dropping the skid plate. theres plenty of room, at least on my '99 there is.
