Slack in the drive line?

So I've had my red '00 TJ for about a year now and I've just assumed that the little lerching I felt when letting off and getting on the gas was normal. Recently got another TJ, '97, and I drove that one and it does nothing like that. Any ideas?

Does the '00 have a rear automatic locker? Bad u-joint on the rear driveshaft?

No auto locker, plain old d35. How do I check the u-joint out?
