It only happens when shifting from 2nd -> 3rd. From 3rd->N -> 3rd it does not happen. Maybe it has something to do with the RPM's of the engine?
So what does everyone think? Minor issue or a major transmission repair?
I can't help you with an answer, but I will say my 99 TJ does this from first to second and only first to second. When I downshift from third to second, I don't seem to have the issue... You've described it perfectly and I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. That being said, from what I've heard/read, so long as you're not grinding, you should
be alright. I say should only because that seems to be the general consensus around here. Next time I take it in, I'll have my mechanic take a look at it, but I'm not rushing to bring it in.
