Slip yoke eliminator

I have read several places that you need to purchse a slip yoke eliminator kit if you lift the tj more than 2 inches. Is this true? If not, when should I think about purchasing the kit? I just purchased an 04 TJ with a superlift 4 inch with 33" tires.

just see if you have any drive line vibes...some people need it some people don't...you may or may not have vibes...if you do get the sye and new driveshaft

Vibes or not, 4" is right at about the height where the OE driveshaft becomes too short. It could pull right off the slip joint if the suspension really gets flexed out. Or worse (!), it could not come off the slip joint all the way and jam there instead... which would bend the t-case output shaft when the driveshaft tries to recompress back onto the slip joint.

4" is the height I always recommend installing a SYE kit and longer CV driveshaft, it's worth it. Plus you won't have to try several methods to try to eliminate the vibes resulting from such a tall lift.

I think Ill get the sye. When I take off in first is feels like clutch chatter but it only happens in first gear. Is this the vibe your talking about? where can I get a whole sye kit with driveshaft?

That does sound like the vibe that happens after a lift. Tom Wood at http://www.4xshaft.com/ is a very good source for SYE kits and CV driveshafts, please tell him I said Hi if you talk with him.

If I dont get crazy with it off road how long can I go with the stock set up? The jeep has 18K miles on it and hasnt had a problem yet. Waht do you guys think?

Also how hard is it to put the sye in? It is bolt on or does it get technical like shimming a diff?

Well I just read some instructions on how to do it and I am not sure if I am confident enought o try this one. Did anyone pay to have theirs installed? If so how did it cost?

If you want to hold off on the SYE kit and CV driveshaft, install a set of 1" taller motor mounts like from M.O.R.E. (Mountain Off Road Enterprises) and a 1" t-case drop. The combination of both of those may reduce the 4" lift-induced angles enough so your vibes will go away until you can get the SYE installed together with the longer CV driveshaft. Installing a SYE kit looks daunting but it's not as difficult as it looks. But surely you can find a Jeeper who has installed one to help you out.

well you've already got a lift and tires and you may have an sye and new driveshaft on the way so your already gonna do really good offroad...you can go with that setup for as long as you want to...BUT if you start gettin more serious and lets say you wanna lock the rear 35 then that is somethin you might wanna upgrade along with gears while your in there...skids and bumpers and you'll be set...you don't HAVE to have any of those extras to take it off road the way it is though...the only thing i would worry about is the rear 35 if you decide to lock it but you may not want to

If the vibration isn't too bad, then you will most likely be fine with it. I have a spare case with SYE in it and a guy was going to buy it from me because he had exploded two Tcase's while running the dunes with pretty much the same setup as yours. He backed out on me and it seemed kind of shady, but I would imagine that he was running it pretty hard and the output shaft got bent and threw everything else out of whack and cracked apart the whole case. So none of us can say when or if something will happen, but just be careful with it and you shouldn't have a problem.

I forgot to add that no amount of driveline vibration is acceptable because those same vibes can take seals and bearings out. Better to be safe than sorry, I'd do something to get rid of those vibes asap. Otherwise you may start seeing leaky seals at the t-case output shaft or at the pinion shaft. It's possible that vibes can take out bearings too.

How much are you wanting to sell the tcase for? I'm not gonna lie to ya, I dont have much money at the moment but I will be working some more here pretty soon so I will try to save as much as I can. Let me know on a price if youre wanting to get rid of it.
