Soft Top Parts

Hey guys. This question should show just how little I know about Jeeps. While you guys are tricking out your Jeeps to ride through lunar craters, I can't even install my soft top. cool, huh?

I have full doors and didn't realise there's a part that I need that contours along the top of my door in order to clip in the soft top. I can't find it on line, maybe because I don't know what it's called and maybe because I don't know where to look. I'd rather buy instore so I can get going (we finally got some decent weather up here). But online's fine, too.

After this , I'm going to install titanium high tension zero gravity suspension

Hey BostonTJ, I believe they are called boomerangs, or something like that. I was lucky, and got them at the local Jeep Outfitters. They told me they bought them from some overstock warehouse, and I had to pay $98.00 a piece for them. I think you can get them through your local Chrysler dealership. It is pretty hard to have the soft top up without them. I will try to do a search for them, or I can see if Jeep Outfitters can mail you a pair. I would think you could find them locally, but let me know.

I just did a quick search, and am not finding anything either. It is also referred to as "Door surrounds".

Door surrounds

New, they are available through http://www.jeepsareus.com

or look through http://www.craigslist.com or ebay. Sometimes you can find them through different Jeep forum boards.

you may also try the wrecking yards. if the wreck wasn't rolled, you have a good chance of finding them in good shape. i see them all the time when looking around for something else. be sure to pick up the screw knobs too though.

You know, I have never seen a Jeep in a wrecking yard... They sure don't end up in the ones down here.

Fort Worth has a junkyard, that is entirely Jeeps. That is why YellowDawg2 suggested that. I have been there with him, so it is just a suggestion. They even have trashed out Border Patrol Jeeps that have been creamed flying over dunes, chasing illegals.........lol. I found my perfectly preserved YJ at a small Jeep bone yard in Bono, TX. With the heat and such of TX, these parts last forever, kind of like the airplane bone yards of AZ. I am sure in other parts of the country, they rust away before they can be resold.

that is neat that they have a pure jeep yard

Soft Top Installation

Thanks for the tips on Door Surrounds. I got some on eBay, after trying junk yards. Now I've got another problem.
I have no idea how to install the damn thing.
This may be the stupidest question ever asked in this forum, and I'm sure glad it's anonymous.
Is there a set of instructions out there I can follow? My user manual is not very helpful.
Basically, do I put the top on the frame first, then put the frame on the vehicle?

Install the door surrounds first, then stretch your soft top over the surrounds, you will see the grooves that are made for your soft top, in the plastic surrounds. The surrounds will only fit one way on your Jeep.

are you talking about the fabric and the soft top frame or the door surrounds?

if it's the first, i put my frame on the jeep and then attach the fabric to the frame. here's instructins from bestop for that.
Installation

if you mean the door surrounds, they just slide over the rollbar between the center bar and the windshield and attach with the screw knob thingys(yes that's the technical term).

hope that helps. if not, we'll try again.

Thanks, Henderson. I'll put in the frame, then use the besttop instructions for the fabric top. mine's a little older than the one you sent me, but I got a manual from besttop.
Whoever owned this vehicle before me took off the frame as well. I'll have to figure that one out. once I have it set up, I can leave the softop in, fold it down, and put the hard top over it right? I don't have to do this every season?

I dont think u can fold the softball down and throw on the hard top
or atleast i have never seen anyone do that
plus if u did that then u would be taking away the little storage area you have in the back

p.s.
did u say what softtop you went with?
