soft top wont close.

It was beautiful out today so i put the top down for the first time.( Bought my tj last week) After enjoyin the afternoon on a trail I tried to put it back up and can't get it latch back down. Everything seems to be lined up but the thing is about 1/8inch from locking into the windshield. Anybody have an ide what could be wrong?

What is the outside temperature? It is really hard to close up a soft top if its colder than 70 degrees.

Hook the latches first, then install everything else, then latch the latches....

Undo the sail panels and you should be able to get it. Then in the future, do as I mentioned earlier...

I did take the sail panels off. Still no luck. If I cant figure it out by tomorrow i might have to take a ride back to the dealer and see about getting A new roof. Its under complete warranty so might as well try.

If you can't get the front latch hooks in, then you must as suggested above unfasten the rear of the top. The front latches must be inserted first before you can latch any of the rear of the top. Once the hooks are in the slots, don't latch it down completely. Get the rear of the top installed and then latch the front hooks down all the way. Then insert the edges over the top of the doors and you're done.

I disconnected everything possible from the rear and sides and it would hook in. I did notice 1 of the bars is slightly bent so that could be my issue.

That makes no sense because nothing could be holding your soft top then. Check both sets of hardware to see if they are binding. Jerry and inferno are absolutely right.

When you are trying to hook, you need to fold the "big part of the latch UP as far as you can. That will extend the "little" hook down. then it will pop into the hole. then refasten the rear of the top, and then latch up front. I can see by your pic if you lift up the whole way on the latch the bottom will slide in.

I don't know about TJ's but my LJ has a strap that runs to the back of the top on each side. Mine have got tangled before and I couldn't get the top to latch. Might want to check those.

Thank You sooooo much. If i had a tail it would be between my legs right now. I feel like the biggest fool I didn't realize if you put it all the way up the hook extends. Thanks to EVERYONE for trying to help i really appreciate it.
