Soft top zipper help

As some of you might have seen I just picked up my jeep last weekend. I am going through it and checking it out cleaning and all that good stuff.

I found out my rear window zipper was started incorrectly. What do I do to get the window off and fix the problem? Searched and looked for a trouble shooting area or threads on this and couldn’t find anything besides prying off the zippers them selves.

Could you define "incorrectly?" Starting a zipper, much like a coat, if you are saying that the two sides were not properly aligned and the teeth are out of sequence, then obviously you have to back off and re-start it. ("Carefully," I might add).

Think if it in terms of any zipper..

Yes, well if you look closely you can see that the one side that I need to back it off on is the one that is further down. Meaning I can not move the zippers enough to disengage the window from the top. Does this make sense?

The most feasible and simple way to fix any zipper is at the end there is a metal square cap where both ends meet. if you look on the back side you can pop it off. and after doing so you can realign the zipper. and a good rule of thumb. before you start unzipping and stuff get candle wax and rub it on the zipper. it reduces friction.

This weekend I took time a lubricated all the zippers with candle wax and they are much easier to slide. I wanted to drop the soft top since it was nice out. I was able to get one rear side window off but the other would unzip all the way but I could not get the window zipper to slide out of the metal base?? Is it possible the metal end and the metal base are stuck due to the oxidation salt caused?

The other major problem I have is the drip rail retainers are very tight and I can not get them out. Are there any secretes to help unhook these? I noticed when it warmer the top becomes loser. Do I really need to wait for it to relax to get these out?

on my 2000 tj two back windows come off different ways, on one the zipper comes off with the window, and on the other, it stays on the top. dont know if this is normal, but works fine for me
