Sound bar help

I have a 2001 tj. No sound comes out of the sound bar. However the done light still works. Any ideas on what could be the culprit? It looks like all the wiring for it is wrapped in electrical tape coming down the drivers side roll bar.

Was it working and then stopped?

The power to the light is completely separate than the speakers. The speakers are powered by the radio.

I would suspect the wiring or the head unit.

It has never worked. The head unit is stock with no CD player or anything.

Is it after market?

Only way to know would be to pull the head unit and trace the wiring I would think.

Some of the most basic radios that came with TJs from the factory had no rear channel outputs for a sound bar. It's possible the PO installed the sound bar & gave up after possibly discovering the radio doesn't have rear-channel speaker outputs.

If your radio has a fader (not balance) control, it has rear-channel outputs. If there is no fader control, it doesn't. That's not to say you can't make the soundbar speakers work if it doesn't have rear speaker connectors. You can always wire the front and rear speakers in series with each other. That of course isn't optimal but it would work.

Jerry your a genius I bet that's it. There isnt a fade knob on the stock head unit. Can you rev commend a good quality head unit with a CD player that will have the rear plug thingy ?

Pretty much any aftermarket head unit will have rear channel outputs. If you have an an iPod or iPod NANO, make sure to get one with a USB port that can control it. My Sony has that & it's nice having nearly my entire CD collection on it. It controls my Nano so I just leave the Nano inside the glove compartment, I never have to touch it.

Go to Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras where they can provide an adapter wiring harness with your new head unit so it can be plugged directly into the TJ's OE stereo wiring harness plug.
