Spare tire question

I recently put a set of 31x10.50 on my stock '04 rims. I mainly went with 31" tires because they were in stock and the 30" would have to be ordered. Anyway I still have the stock 30" Goodyear spare, using it in an emergency would be no different than a car using one of those tiny spares correct? As long as you don't drive too far too fast it would get you home with no damage? Hated to buy five tires because I was cheap

As long as you don't engage 4WD, you won't know the difference. (Once upon a time, I had "dual flats" and had to put a 28" tire on with three 31" tires. Hardly noticable.)

...using it in an emergency would be no different than a car using one of those tiny spares correct?
It would be different, but the differences would all be in your favor, since you have a standard duty tire as opposed to an emergency spare.

Like you said. Keep it off the freeway and take your time, and you'll probably have no problems.

It scares the snot out of me when I see someone passing me on the freeway on three good tires and a donut, and where I'm from, it happens all the time. I get off at the next exit and take the long way home to avoid the inevitable tie-up when (not if) the spare decides to explode, shred itself, or depart the vehicle on a ballistic trajectory. Can't fix stupid...

My biggest concern would be that even though the stock 30" spare may look great on the outside, there could be some potentially serious rot or degradation on the inside if it is 11 years old. I found out the hard way; several years ago I bought 4 new tires (and tried to save money by leaving the OEM 30" Goodyear spare).

Three weeks later I picked up a nail coming home from work and flattened out. I put the 12 year old OEM spare on (I only had 7 or so miles left to get home) and about 4 miles later BOOM....the side wall blew out a 6" long gash, and I had to get it towed. When I got it to the tire center, they inspected & showed me the OEM spare. The inside was pitted & dry rotted and they mentioned how fortunate I was that the complete tire didn't blow down to the rim at 55mph. I wound up buying 2 tires after that....so I really didn't save any $$$.

Just wanted to relate my experience to you...good luck!!
