speedo gear help

i have a 99 with a set of 31" tires with a stock gear ratio of 4.11. all the charts i have seen say i need a 38 tooth gear. i ordered one from quadratec and they gave me a 36 tooth gear. now they don't sell a 38 tooth gear. i ordered it a few months ago and finally got it cause it was on back order, now they no longer sell the 38 tooth. will the 36 tooth gear give me the correct readout on the speedo?

If it calls for a 38, then only a 38 will.

I just checked my known-accurate speedo gear chart and a 38 tooth gear is appropriate for a 31" tire size and 4.11 gearing.

i just opened the new quadratec catalog('09 summer edition an page 197) and they say it needs a 36 tooth gear, and 4x4xplor's chart is the same as the chart above. i'm not sure if i should install it or send it back and get a 38 tooth gear?

You already have it, try it out. It's not difficult to install, just make sure you are careful with the O-ring when reinserting. Once it's in, validate with a GPS or highway/freeway mile marker.

Quadratec is so lame that they have two different speedometer gear charts floating around, one is correct and one is incorrect, and they can never keep it straight which one is correct. I've seen QT use both for the past 10 years or so. The 36 tooth gear recommendation on that particular QT chart is wrong.

i know its simple to do i just don't want to install the wrong gear and have to deal with getting another one. the one i got was on back order for a few weeks. id rather send it back to get the right one and install it.
