Question Speedometer cutout?

I just purchased a 2004 TJ and need to know if there is a device made that will keep the speedometer from logging miles while being towed with a towbar. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks, 650RedRider

If it's like a 99 TJ - There's an electrical wiring harness plug on the back of the tranny. It's got a red clip on it. You can remove the red clip and unplug the harness. It won't log the miles. Just be sure to plug it back in before you're up and running.

Thanks! I'll take a look and give it a try. It won't give any error messages during a smog check will it? Like that the speedo has been tampered with?

not as long as you don't turn the key on with the wires disconnected.

So, it would normally log the miles even w/ the ignition off and in neutral?

How about the accessory position to unlock the steering for towing?

How funny, this is the second time today this question has come up....

I flat tow my '04 behind my motorhome. Part of the towing proceedure is to put the key in the ignition and turn it one "click". this will unlock the steering wheel, but it will not log miles on the odometer. You don't have to disconnect anything...... Make sure you follow the "towing proceedures" in the manual when you flat tow your Jeep.
