Hey Trip what do you want for it??Although I am not so sure that I would benefit from it.Looking at the chart I figure factory gear would be 29 or 30.Does anybody know the tooth count on the factory gear for Wrangler sport 4.0L auto with 3.07 ratio????

That's the 29-tooth gear. Mine Jeep is a '98, has the 4.0L I6 engine, three-speed auto trans, and had 3.07 gears. This is the gear that Trip is getting from me. Since I have gone up to 33" tires I changed to (if I recall correctly) a 36-tooth gear.

sorry i dont wanna hijack but after i installed my 33s i figured my guage was off.. yet i was getting around 15 mpg still.. i thought it would have been considerably less, so i got the handy TOMTOM..(gps) to see how much it was off.. when i was going 60 it said 62.. i have 3.73 w/a manual trans.. when i got the gear 31 spline gear the guy at the dealership said the new one i got could still be off by no more than 3mph because the actual size of the 33s may be off.. so would it even be worth installing since appearantly the jeep is only off by 2mph?? or could my gps be off..

I'm getting mine for 75 bucks as we established earlier so i'd return the favor ON for the same price i'll give you the gear (still new in wrapper). I just want to receive the 29 tooth gear to make sure its the same thing. I got another gear earlier this month that did not fit so..

jk.. i'll give it to you for free as i'm forwarding the favor from Bob
Thank you

Hulkboy, with 3 mph i woudlnt even mess with it but its up to you. Now if you're like mine with my stock gear and my 35s.. almost 10 mph difference at 60 mph.

I kind of lost ya there???? So are you saying that the factory is a 29 or a 36??? For 3.07 and 33" tires it should be a 26 tooth??????(wich they do not make for as TJ)You are running 33s with 3.07 and used a 36 tooth SG????Could you go over that one more time if this is not right????

Hey Trip I sent that PM but hold on a day or so to see if I can find out the tooth number I have with stock.I would hate for you to send it to me and I have a 29 tooth stock gear allready and someone else could have used the 30more than me.Allthough if thats the case I could just forward it on also so how ever.If you get around to it just let me know.Later!!!

alright Sherman, keep me updated.

To see what gear you have stock you can pull the speedo counter thingy from the tcase and the numbers should be engraved into the gear.

Yeah If I actually get a chance to get my own vehicle in the shop I will check it.I just put a fan relay on a 2001 Grand Cherokee today and you have to take the whole grille, bumper cover, and both headlights and headlight buckets out just to get to the blasted thing. It sits right behind the passager side headlight but you can't get just the headlight out like most cars they are bolted to the headlight bucket from the inside and the bucket or basket the headlights sits in is a one piece deal that goes all the way across the front to the other headlight. If the headlight came out like most it would have been a 10 min job but nooo.

Sorry for the confusion...the stock gear was the 29-tooth gear. I am now running the 36-tooth gear with my 33" tires.

update.. i installed the 29 tooth gear and of course, gues what? i took a test drive, everything worked great. Next mourning i find a nice puddle of oil on the ground. The original o-ring was way to loose so i guess i pinched it. Anyhow i went to ace hardware and found a replacement. On the package it says

1-11/16 X 1-1/2
X 3/32 #86 ORINO
STK NO 35708B
||||scan code|||
Danco Company
Concordville pa 19331

The cost was like 40 cents
