Speedometer gear issue

I put in my new speedo gear last night. Driving it this morning, I heard a knock from underneath. The check engine light went on and it kept stalling. I then realized the speedometer was not working. I guess it did not seat well. Any thoughts on what could happen if the gear falls out or breaks? It seems to be running fine other than the idle issue. It starts right back up. Hopefully the gear just fell into the bottom of the tcase and I can seat it properly and be good to go. The easiest and cheapest part of the lift job and I screw it up by not seating it properly. Ughhhh...

Any link or picture of where that speedo gear is. I need to change mine out as well but haven't figured out where to do it. I did it on a Dodge Ram I used to have so I would imagine it is as easy as getting the new gear and bolting it into the transmission. Any pics or links would be great. Thanks.

It is on the rear of the transfer case, drivers side. It has some wiring coming off of it and has one 1/2 bolt holding it on. It is a real easy job, just have to make sure it seats right apparently. I will post a picture tonight.

figured it out. Just needed to spin the gear housing a bit to the right angle and it worked fine.

Picture of where it is

The speedo gear is under the drivers side at the back of the transfer case skid. Just be aware that the number of teeth in the gear has a corresponding number on the housing of the gear mount. Make this number range on the mount point straight down to the ground while lining up the c-clip to lock it in place. Good luck.
