Spring quality affect on ride quality

How much do springs affect the ride quality? Has anybody changed the springs for the same lift to a better quality brand and noticed an improvement in ride quality? I'm contemplating upgrading my unknown brand red (rancho maybe) springs to something better. I know that shocks are a huge player and want to decide if I should upgrade the shocks, springs, or both. Dual rate coilovers are in my future plans, but due to my current project backlog, its going to be 1-2 years before I can get to that.
