Squealing vacuum leak

I have a 97 TJ with a 4cyl and a K&N intake system. The problem happens as soon as you’ve been driving for a few minutes. As soon as you take your foot off of the gas, a loud squealing starts. If you touch the gas it stops immediately. The noise does fluctuate a little if you touch the heater switch, but doesn’t actually stop.

I know that many people will say to get rid of the K&N intake, but the noise still happens if I take the air filter off completely.

So my questions are:
Has anyone ever had this happen and if so, how was it resolved?
Does anyone have any tricks to finding a vacuum leak?

Sitting at traffic lights is starting to get embarrassing so any help is appreciated.

I have a similar noise coming from my jeep. Mine is not that loud. Just loud enough to notice. Only on deceleration before the engine is completely warm. Noise dissipates after 10 minutes or so. I'm sure it a vacuum leak as well. Just haven't had the motivation to search it out yet.

So the loud squealing is only present when the engine is decelerating?

It is probably a vacuum leak. Could be coming from the intake manifold. Take a can of carb cleaner, and spray around the area from which the noise is coming, and it will kill the noise once it hits the leak. This is of course if it is a vacuum leak coming from the intake manifold.

NO DO NOT USE CARB CLEANER use throttle body cleaner. Most carb cleaners will ruin electronics and chew up rubber hoses.

Hmmm.... really. What are the chemical differences? Have you compared the contents? Aren't they both solvents?

I guess you could use soapy water for that matter.
