Squeeky Squeeky?

When I had my windows down on the jeep today I realized their is a small squeek. At first I thought it was the tire squeeking, then thought it was a belt... but realized it stops when I push the clutch in. Anyone know what this might be? I like my vehicles to be solid, how much do you think it would cost me to get the squeek out?

The most polite way I can put this, and I'm exactly the same way when it comes to my car.

First - Take it to the dealer if it bothers you that much. They have sonic equipment to diagnose such problems.

Second - It's a Jeep Wrangler, about a half step up from an Horse and Cart, it will squeek, rattle, bang, klunk, smash, and keep right on truckin'.

If the sqeek isn't louder than a tree branch going up the side, I dont even worry about it.

If it is a steady squeak while the clutch is out then I would say possible clutch related. Mine has squeaked like that for about 2 years if the Jeep sits for a long time or is cold when I first start it up. In order to replace anything involved with the clutch the transmission needs to be dropped. Just keep an eye on it. If it does bother you to much either get under it and look at it or take it to a shop and have them check it out.

If it stops when you push in on the clutch, it's more than likely the Clutch Release (Throw Out) Bearing.

I'm guessing the clutch release or throw out bearing will require the transmission to be dropped like odhinn suggested? If so I'm guessing at least a couple hours work in the shop, looks like no cheap fix! Does putting it in neutral and letting go of the clutch at stops helps this? From what I've read from you guys, this can minimize damage to the throw out bearing. ?

What year is your Jeep? I know that the NV3550 is a noisy transmission in neutral, but the noise stops when you push the clutch (stop turning the trans). This may be all you are hearing and it is loud if you are not used to it. I forget a lot of times until I am sitting at a drive-through with the doors off and have to push in the clutch so that it is quiet when I am talking to the speaker!

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

x10.

I just mentioned that in another thread. I just replaced the NV3550 in my 04. It was LOUD before. And the new one...LOUD. Just the same, that's just the way they are. But no squeaking. Throw out bearing is always a usual suspect. I think as an isolated fix, the TOB is simple and quick - it's dropping the tranny that takes the time and $, unless you can do it yourself. If you do that, just throw a whole new clutch kit on it. You can get a new OEM clutch kit with everything, including TOB, etc for around $170. If you get that far, you may as well do it all to save having to do it again down the road.

U-joint?
