Starter Problems

Okay Fellas here the deal;

2006 Jeep Rubicon

Jeep would sometimes start, and click, and eventually turn over after a sequence of turning the key on and off, and moving the stick around into different gears.

Sometimes charging it would help as well. I have a Yellow Top Battery, voltage seems to be fine, lights on the dash light up, with headlights. Haven't tried to see if it dims the lights yet, I was in a bit of a hurry to get to work.

On Xmas day after several attempts it would not start, it would click, but all of a sudden would not click anymore. From that day on till now it does not click.

So I bought a new starter, installed it, and still does not work, even no clicking noise.

I had it jump started as well, worked great, and reversed it into position and turned it off.

So, I try putting it into reverse, and I have no reverse lights? Is the starter stuck with the gears of the Tranny? Should I try pushing it to see if this loosens things up ?

Will recheck connections and what not tomorrow after shift. Everything seemed to be snug.

THanks!

clean all the terminals very nicely.
the battery might be weak. voltage means nothing.

Get the system tested at auto zone or any parts really. Hes right though voltage could still look good and a dying battery will still run most accessories but not have enough umph to crank the starter over
But at this point i'd put my money on a bad battery

I'd guess either dying battery or you may have a bad ground somewhere... I changed my starter the other day due to a confirmed bad starter. Had to change my battery terminal connection due to the bolt breaking and when I changed it, I noticed a lot of white powder in one of my ground wires (oxidation/corrosion or whatever INSIDE the wire...which i believe is the sign of a cut in the insulation somewhere and the wire is beginning to break down). I went to start my Jeep the next morning...and nothing but a click. After a few tries, it fired right up. Now it feels as if my battery is getting weak when i crank it over...and it's only a year old. I'm guessing mine is related to that ground wire...just need to find time to replace it before it gets TOO weak.

Im having the same problem on my 94. Changed the battery and still wont turn over. No clicking noise from starter. Just wont start. It wants to but not doing it. Could the timing chain have anything to do with it?

no clicking means starter.
