My 1998 4.0 tj randomly wouldn't turn over, decided to replace ignition switch. $36 later, I got it changed out. Turn the key, jeep starts, I shut it off and start buttoning it back up, go to start it again and get a no crank.

Why would the jeep randomly start blowing ignition switches?

Thanks for any help, it's my only car right now

Is there an aftermarket alarm? Maybe loose wire. Maybe faulty alarm. Just ideas.

Chased it down to the starter, as In I beat the starter with a hammer. I then decided to swap it out with a new one in case it wants to quit on me again. "NOPE" says the jeep as another bolt head shears from its shank, "I like this starter, it's not going anywhere" it chuckled.....

I swear I have never ran into a vehicle with shitter hardware in my life.

This will sound like a crazy thing. I had to replace the switch about a year ago. After that it would start but I found I had to slap the left side of the steering column while turning the key and depressing the clutch. Took it apart but couldn't find what I'd done wrong. It started fine before I buttoned it all up.

I later discovered that I could turn the key all the way like I was trying to start it, turn the key back, then try starting it again and it would work! This went on for a few months until my clutch went out. After I replaced the master/slave the jeep started first time every time.
