Starting problems... when turning key...

Hi Everyone,

I am a proud owner of a Jeep Wrangler 2008 X with a slew of problems. The most recent one now is that the engine won't turn on the first crank. Sometimes it will turn on the 2nd crank, sometimes it takes about a minute. When the issue happens it has a failing sound and almost like air is trying to push through somewhere. Almost like something is not making a connection.

I am thinking it's electrical because I had a third party alarm installed and after having this alarm for a few months it started happening. The first time I noticed it, it happened for about six months and then the battery died when filling up the tank at a gas station. Triple A came and charged the battery, then I took it to my mechanic the next morning. He said the battery needed to be replaced.

Now it's happening again. My mechanic tells me to shake the key around in the ignition but this doesn't work. Last I need is for this Jeep to leave me stranded with my kids.

I have been reading the forums and I am hoping that someone had a similar issue and can let me know what they did to resolve this particular issue.

Thank you in advance.

Frank.

Thanks for your reply... That is my next step, however I keep reading in the forums about similar problems other Jeep Owners are having. Very similar ones that has forced them to replace cranks shaft position sensors to range sensors. All sorts of posts and I am hoping that it is this alarm that caused the issue and not these sensors. First it was the check engine oil coming on after approx 1000 miles and now this...
