Steering Column Clunk

I just purchased a '99 TJ Sahara . Unfortunately, it has a 3" Body Lift and no suspension lift. I intend to reduce the lift to 1-1/4" asap. I had new ball joints and hubs installed and the entire suspension gone through. But.... I am getting a feeling in the steering wheel when going over bumps at low speed or when coming to a stop. It almost feels like a slip yoke bottoming out. You can only feel it in the steering wheel. Can't feel or hear it in the seat. I wonder if anyone has had this problem and what they did about it. Or, will it go away when I reduce the lift. I searched and searched the forum and couldn't find anyone with this issue. Thanks for your help.

It might be because of the massive body lift. Could also be a worn out joint in the shaft. Pop the hood and see if there is any excess play in the shaft.

I checked for play in the whole steering system. None that I or a mechanic friend of mine could see. Also I can grab the steering column under the hood and there is a very small amount of lateral play but think that is from the where the two parts of the column are joined. The u-joints on the column are tight. It feels in the steering wheel like the shaft is moving on a line from the wheel to steering gear. Kind of a clunk, clunk.
