Is it your steering wheel or actually down in your box and linkage?

x2

If it still makes this noise after filling to the level with power fluid, try to change all the PS fluid. If it still makes te noise, it's time to change the PS pump.

Definately look into the power steering pump. If the sound is not coming from there the grinding noise could also be your wheel bearings going bad.
