I have a 01 tj with a 3 inch lift and 33 by 12.5. When ever it rains And I steer my jeep or go over a bump it makes a popping noise. It also seems like my steering has been loose and feels like my car is all over the road when I'm going around 40 or over. I'm not sure if it's all the Same problems or if it's all different steering components. Iv considered buying all new heavy duty steering linkage but I'm not sure if that's the problem. Thanks all
If you do decide to to with new steering linkage. You can upgrade your set up to HD with the crown kit and then get an adjustable front track bar. I got mine on Amazon for around $300 total
I'm with TheDesertOutlaw on this one, if you have a stock track bar, which is pretty likely on a 3" TJ lift, replace the urethane bushings on it & your tie rod ends. The tie rod ends will require a fork to pop them out, or just pay a front end guy to do it. He'll need to reset the toe anyhow. Might as well check your ball joints while your under there too, but that's not as common.
If his steering didn't wobble with the smaller tires, it could be that his ball joints weren't demonstrating how worn they were. The Dry Steering test will reveal if this is the case.
Good luck with the steering. I'm getting ready to Upgrade my front end as well.
