Steering rack noise

Hi everyone. My jeep started to have a cracking or lets say a metal on emtal sound when i turn my steering. Also at full right lock at the very end it pops. I asked someone to turnt he steering wheel while i diagnose the prob. Iam pretty sure that its the steering rack. Could it be that?

You don't have a rack.

with your solid front axle, you have a steering gear box not a rack and pinion set up, in the TJs case, the gearbox is mounted to the drivers side of the frame. attached to that is your pitman arm, draglink, etc.
first, take a look at all your TREs and make sure they are in good working order. have some one move the steering wheel back and forth while you look for any play in the components, and listen for any noise. being under the front end of the jeep, you may hear it better and be able to pin point where the noise is coming from. make sure all bolts are torqued down properly.
TREs all look fine? start looking at the gear box. see if you can notice if it is leaking or making any noise there.
most likely it is a TRE(s) that needs attention.

What do you want to bet you'd be able to track that noise down very precisely with someone turning the steering wheel back and forth while you're up front inspecting?

Seems sensible, doesn't it?

What size tires are you running, are you lifted or stock? Add some details for us to consider.

Is it possible that one of the teeth are broken? But that wouldnt make sense, that the pop is only full lock to te right.

I am right there with you on that too. Every time I go to look under while someone turns the wheel it won't do it. And then it will do it when I drive but then sometimes not do it!!! It's very frustrating!

Check your tracbar bushings. I have 2 pops one is the tracbar and the ther the steering box.
