Steering upgrade

So I was at a LARGE car and truck show on the gulf coast this weekend and got a little over.... well hell i was showing out. anyway crawling up on concrete walls after which to my dismay my steering wheel was out of wack. got out and sure enough my front tires were bowed out and it appears my drag link is bent inward and actually rubbing against the axle bracets in one place.. sigh.. SO its time to upgrade this weak link now.. so any suggestions?

Currie has their kit at around $429

ORO has the U-turn replacement which Im not exactly whats special about it or why its better (any lessons here would also be appreciated) for $600

and there are a few other drag link combos out there all in between $299 to $600

so what do u guys think? any experience with these and what do u run on your rig and why?

I ran the currie system on the last tj. Did fine untill I smashed it into a tree. Other than that no issues with it.

I'm on my 2nd Currie drag link and tie rod. Broke the first tie rod - actually stripped the threads off the tie rod end. It's a forging, not a tube like most others.
Currie wouldn't replace the end, or just sell me a new tie rod, I had to buy both tie rod and drag link. (Obviously the tie rod ends are the weak points.

I didn't have time to get creative and make/adapt something else, so I bought a whole new set. Their attitude --- "tough sh--. Not a good PR thing.

Next time I'll use the tie rod off a big Dodge truck or something, shorten and re-thead it, then adapt the TREs.

I've run both the ORO U-Turn and now the Currie. I've been much happier with the Currie. The ORO takes a lot of tweaking to get it just right. The Currie is basically a bigger and beefier factory steering system and it performs well.

There seem to be alot of positive reviews on the Currie set up. Northridge has the kit for around $375 shipped. I'll be ordering one one of these days

If you are looking for a solid stock steering replacement you might give this guy a look. He's a friend of mine that has went out on his own recently. Sy is a great guy and has been building some solid stuff for a few years. Here is a link to his steering he's built.

That's really odd Rich, I was able to buy a new tie rod by itself directly from Currie without hassle which included new clamps. I carry a spare Currie tie rod now and just straighten my tie rods as needed. Next time ask for John C. if you have any problems with the sales droid.

Having run a Currie steering kit for years, that's what I would go for BFYTW. That a few of us bend ours is only an indication of the really extreme trails we sometimes find ourselves on. Most Currie steering components never bend... there are just some idiots (talking about me and RRich ) out there doing stupid things on the rocks once in a while.

But I have been running a Currie for a while and have no problems with it, major improvement over stock.

Alright, Thanks everyone for the mass replies! I will explore the options and let you know what i end up doing. Basically my jeep is a weekend cruiser that is babied. I never would have dreamed I would have bent the factory setup. Oh well good lesson and good opportunity to fix it right.

Once you compare your old tie rod and draglink to an upgraded tie rod and draglink you'll realize why yours bent.
