Steering Wheel Question

I have a factory wrapped steering wheel that is starting to peel at the top. Has anyone cut the wrap off theirs ? If you did, was it just a regular steering wheel below or is it all glued and ugly? Mine looks like a brand new nice wheel below. I just don't want to peel it off to find out I was totally wrong.

thank you guys in advance
