stock bumper end cap removal

I am going to remove my end caps and flares today to bed line them. I was taking a shot at it last night to just take some off before today but i couldnt get the bottom bolt off. The top 2 came off after some elbow grease by the bottom one just keeps spinning. Is there a retainer clip on these just like the fenders? it has been a pain so far and would just like some help thank you

When I painted my flares , I just taped them off and painted them on the jeep. The end caps have a clip inside that spins and can be a pain. I ripped them off and threw them in the garbage. I cut the front bumper about 6 inches shoter on both sides and welded flat pieces on the bumper ends to finish it off before bedlining.

You may have to grind the bolt head off if the clip is spinning on the inside

Can you reach in with some needle or duckbill pliers from the back side and hold the clip while using an impact driver on the bolt?

I used needle nosed vice grips when I had spinning nutserts on my fender removal, it worked great so I was thinking it might help with the cap bolt clip too.

you can try to sandwich a flat blade screwdriver in there to "catch" the metal clip or you can try exerting some force the the actual milk jug in the opposite direction that you are trying to remove it in order to create some additional resistance on the clip so it doesn't spin freely. I have used both methods successfully. FWIW - my end caps (milk jugs) have been removed front & rear and I installed finishing caps that provide a nice finished appearance.

Do keep in mind that once everything is apart and painted, when you reassemble, there is play in the end caps and it is highly likely that you may damage your new paint job. It may be easier to remove the whole bumper & simply paint them in place. Good luck!
