Stock console subwoofer not working

Anybody have an idea of what to check for when the stock subwoofer in the console doesn't work? No sound. Factory cd player head unit. 05 wrangler. id like to fix it rather than put a box somewhere else.

Make sure u actaully have one. I thought mine was broken, then I bought a new subwoofer for there. Turns out my 2002 wrangled x didn't come with a subwoofer! Also check #3 fuse inside behind the glove box. Your slot # may be different, check manual. If not those things, let me know and we can go from there

Yes, check if there's one even there. If the console is about as deep as the floorboard, there's no sub. Those w/subs are very shallow compared to those w/o subs. If you have one, and it's not working, I'd look at the speaker and the amp fuse.

Not to be a smart ass, but the easiest way to tell if you have a factory sub woofer is: Look at the center console, if it has the slots in it, My 02 is on the driver side.

On mine, the sub went out about 4 years ago, the foam deteriorated. Quadratec is showing a replacement for about $80.

Hope that helps

Just Becuz it has slots(vents) in it doesn't mean it has a speaker

Yea. The exterior of consoles are standard, just the interior white parts are different. My jeep has slots but no subwoofer or amp.

If you have a sub and the amp is good but the speaker is shot (most common issue), here's the link I followed:

Replaced My Blown Subwoofer!

Ordered the same sub as the one in the first post from sonic electronix. $16 total. Price plus shipping from CA to NC. Couldn't beat it. Works great.

*looks like the price has gone up a bit since I got mine, and they are sold out as of the link. Still, $20 to the door isn't a bad deal.

Thanks guys! it has the factory sub, first checked the depth inside console- didn't go all the way down. Then checked fuses behind glovebox, they were all good, then I noticed an empty slot with 2 tabs but no fuse, popped in a fuse and it came on... But its all blown to hell, previous owner yanked the fuse. Gonna order new speaker.

I would buy the pryamid 6.5" from amazon. Just search "pyramid 6.5" and get that one. Its what I got. Great sound and great flex for a little speaker. Only $20 too!

this topic sparked my interest as the sound in my jeep didn't seem right and thought about getting a box for behind the seat. so i had to check for myself and found my '05 has slots but no speaker. so here's my question} if i get the speaker from quadratec to put in what all do i have to do to wire it in, and the pocket in my console goes to the floor so where can i get the pocket insert that will work with a speaker in it?

You need much more. First DONT buy the one from quadratrec. Its small and doesn't sound good. Get the pyramid 6.5". Also the stock console speaker had an amp. all 4 other speakers ran through this amp in order to tell the subwoofer what to play. You would need a new console, the amp, wire it all, and get the subwoofer. I would just get something like the sound ordinance B-8PT or something

Sorry but no, the subwoofer did not become a factory option until later.

I'm having the same issue - sub fuse is good, installed new deck to factory wiring and nothing... What fuse did you put in to get it working? My last TJ was simple - just plugged in the new deck and I was in business... Any help is appreciated!

Got a kicker from my local radio shack. One side note. The original is a dual cone speaker and you will find that it has four connectors on it. Two for each cone. The kicker is single cone but much higher quality. We wired these four in series so the kicker is getting max output from the stock amp. Works and sounds great.

Salty what exactly did you do to wire this in series? Did you use the factory amp?

When I had to replace the speaker in my last one, I just ran both + to one terminal and the same with the -'s... The stock setup is a Dual Voice Coil speaker - I found a SVC on partsexpress.com that requires a modification to the box but sounds great for only $20...

I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport that I ordered specially equipped from the factory. They DID have a Mopar subwoofer box option for the 1997 Wrangler, but I chose not to get it at the time. It had additional speakers and subwoofer(s). It fit in the trunk, and I didn't want to lose my trunk at the time.

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that does not have a subwoofer in the console but has the slots that face the drivers seat. Can I take out the console and cut the white plastic out and install a speaker or would I have to buy a new console?
