stock gas tank skid question

did jeep change the gas tank skid anywhere in the production of the tj? i have a 2000 and the gas tank skid is almost completely rusted out and its time for a replacement. just wanting to know what year to look for when i got to the junk yard tomorrow.

Early TJs used thin sheet metal to support the gas tank and it was vulnerable to trail damage. At some point, that sheet metal became substantially heavier and turned into a pretty fair skidplate. I'm not sure when that happened but maybe around the 2000-2001 time frame. So that just means I'd definitely avoid 97-99 but I'm not sure after that exactly what year the change occurred. As I think more about it, that beefier skidplate may have been introduced as late as 2003.

I believe it was the 2003+ models where the stock fuel skid was improved and the auto tranny's breathing hole placement (in upper portion of the bellhousing) issue i.e., made it susceptible to water, was resolved
