I have searched for this but cannot find, what are the stock gears in mah rig's rear and front end? Dana 35, and Dana 30, auto trans(shift command).

You either have 3.07 or 3.73, and your ratio can be found embossed into a steel tag bolted onto your axle's differential cover.

Another way to tell...

1. Take a piece of chalk or something that you can see easy and mark the sidewall of the tire and also the driveshaft.

2. Jack the rear of the vehicle off the ground.

3. Spin the tire ONE full rotation, while watching the driveshaft.

If the drive shaft basicly makes 3 rotations you have 3.07's.
If the drive shaft makes 3.75 rotations you have 3.73's.

Also since the tag is no longer there.

1. someone replaced the axle lube and didn't replace the tag.
2. the rearend has had work done to it... ei..new parts.
3. the gears mite have bean changed to a different ratio.

The model and package are usually a good indication. Just a thought. Ex: I believe most sport and sahara pakages are 3.73

Also JTALAR. I see you have a 4'' lift and maybe 33'' tires. If you bought the jeep with the lift and tires. It is a possiblity that the previous owner installed lower(new) gears to compensate for the larger tires.

With the test I listed in post #5.

If the the drive shaft spins a hair over 4 rotations....4.10's
If the drive shaft spins basiclly 4.5 rotations....4.56's.

hope this helps bud.

No I installed the lift myself distortedtj, and the tires that are on are what i bought it with 31/10:50, unfortunately, I do not know the history of the Rig, kinda like most of us. I was just curious as to what gear ratio I have in order to figure out what to upgrade to when I do install 33's

Cool beans bud. And good on you for building your own rig.

The little test I've mentioned before will get you your gear ratio.

The only other way....remove the diff cover and start counting ring gear and pinion teeth and use Math.

DistortedTj, I suck at math...hehe, so do I use your first suggestion or the second? I want to be sure cause I am very close to installing lockers, and need to know the gear ratio

Jtalar, did you look on the front axle? It also has a tag like the rear axle, maybe it's not missing.

With an open axle, you have to rotate a tire precisely 2X to get a direct ratio read from the number of driveshaft rotations.

Wow, I'm a little ashamed I didn't catch that either, almost everything I've ever owned that I cared to know the gear ratio in had a locker lol
