Straight Tie Rod

Was looking at some suspension stuff and came across this stratight tie-rod conversion.

Rustys Offroad: Conversions - Jeep XJ-ZJ-TJ-YJ Tie Rod

What is the purpose behind these? Are there any benefits in the handling department?

That type of design is just more likely to cause bump steer. Instead, I'd look at the well proven super-beefy Currie heavy duty steering kit that is made from 1.25" (25% heavier than Rusty's) hardened chromolly stock. Currie's is the defacto standard used by the rock crawlers and it's about as good as it gets. It's a direct bolt-in and will not cause any handling problems like bump steer. I've been running it for years and it's an outstanding and extremely popular steering kit.

Click on Currie Enterprises CJ Axle Parts to see it.
