Stupid Tramsmission question

Ok I know this is kinda stupid for me to ask at my age, but my 01 TJ has a 30rh Trans mission in it, mainly cause my left knee don't do so well on clutches anymore.
Anyway, its listed as a 3 speed, ok mine shifts at 15, and 27, yea that makes three, but when I let off the gas enough top stay at a constant speed it shifts again, and the rpm goes way down (400-500). I've never seen any thing anywhere about an overdrive so I'm assuming its a stall converter in it, am I right? Or is it an automatic overdrive system?

At what RPM does the stock converter lock up?

Mine won't lock up until at least 35 mph and a constant speed for at least 3 seconds

No particular rpm, the engine computer figure out when it needs to lock/unlock.

That explains a lot.
So if it ever stops locking up it may be a computer issue instead of a bad converter?
