Super fast turn signal..

Recently my right turn signal has been rapid (back right turn signal light was not turning on) then going back to normal and working fine...

During the past few days though I think the bulb is officially dead b/c I am always getting the rapid turn signal and the blinker is not lighting up...

Anyone know the type of bulb for a 2000 TJ rear turn signal? I am guessing it is as easy enough to just pop off the read light cover and replace the bulb?

Thanks!

Aye, just undo the 4 screws at the corners of the red lense and it will either fall right off or require just a touch of leverage from a flat head screwdriver, key, quarter, etc. It's also labeled on the lense which way is up for when you put it back on.

Any auto parts store should be able to give you the right bulb. I say "should" because sometimes they goof. Put it in while there so you can go back inside if it's not the right one. Shouldn't be more than a couple bucks. Avoid handling the bulb itself with your fingers. Oils from your skin will shorten the new bulb's life. Often dramatically.

The owners manual for my 2003 says that the turn signal takes an 1157 bulb. An owners manual is a good thing to have and can be found on line quite easily.

check the sockets. old cars have very rusty sockets sometimes you need to clean them up.

Doubt it's the bulb, turn your four ways on and everything should blink at the same (normal) rate. Sounds to me like you flasher is crapping out. Switch to heavy duty flashers and this won't happen anymore

A rapid flashing of one direction and not the other confirms the flasher is fine and one of the bulbs on the side that flashes rapidly is bad. As was said earlier an 1157 is the correct bulb for the rear. Oil from fingers does not effect this type of bulb's lifespan. An 1157 has offset locating pins so if it does not go into the socket and lock down with a twist easily try pulling it out and rotating it 180* and try again.
