I agree with Debruins - If I'm looking to make power, I'd go with a EFI V8.

Its not that easy doing a motor swap. If you have have it emission tested and they have to meet the requirements for that year or newer. No fun there and a 4.0 is a good motor and you wouldn't have to change Evey thing under the hood if you did a supercharger.
A v8 swap for a 00 to 06 to meet emission requirements would cost around $10,000.00 at least or not more.
To do a Hemi motor is closer to $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 or more if you do not have to change the axles and trans.
Buts thats my thoughts on it.
If I could i would do a motor swap to a diesel.

I'm just waiting for my 4.0 to crap out so I can put a diesel in. I found a Detroit diesel 3-53 w/ turbo to put in. I'll make it fit!

When I say stroker, I mean stroking out your existing 4.0 engine. As far as your vehicle is concerned, a stroker is just a 4.0 engine. Works with existing emissions and the existing computer. No customization needed. Pull the old, drop in the new.

Have you ever installed a supercharger? You will have almost as many hours in that as you would an engine swap.

yup. your jeep won't know the difference between the stock 4.0 and the stroked out 4.9. But you will when you hit the gas and lift the front wheels off the ground.

Installed an turbo kit (+intercooler) in about 5-6 hours which requires removal of exhaust manifold and running oil lines and drilling the oil pan and then trying to figure out intercooler piping and then wiring the piggy back to throw in some more fuel. A low boost 5psi supercharger kit is much much simpler than that.

That does sound addicting i lifted the fronts off the ground yestuday in the early AM and i'm addicted but afraid to do it again since dont want to snap something but i think the ecu would know the difference.. gotta throw in some more fuel doesnt it?

Nope. ECU knows no difference. Engine comes complete with new injectors, sensors, fuel lines, intake manifold, high vol oil pump, high vol water pump.... it is literally a complete and well thought out process. Your computer doesn't know the difference AND you can run it on regular 87 octane.

Um. I am pretty sure, regardless of all the parts added, you will need at least a small tune...

A stroked 4.0 is a good way to go. have a freind how put on a superchager in 4 hours. But if you dont want to take down the motor or have low miles and only want more power I would go with a supercharger my self.

Ok, just so you all know. I actually talked to Hesco last year about building a motor for me. 5295 complete, to my door. This is not a kit, it is a completely new engine. Not even using my existing block. There is a 200 dollar core charge if I don't send them a block back.

They assured me that my Jeep will not know the difference between a 4.0 and their stroked 4.9. The computer and emissions will all not be affected. They know what they are doing.

Hesco Inc. - High Performance Engine Service

They are already working on a stroked version of the 3.8. I've heard rumors of a 5.0.

I pulled the front tire off the ground on my bike (it's not a crotch rocket), and my Jeep, but that was because I hit a berm WAY too hard.
