Swapping in '01 Grand Cherokee V8

I've got a '99 TJ SE (2.5L 4 cyl) and I'm looking to do an engine swap with a '01 Grand Cherokee V8. My buddy is giving me the engine, so that's why I'm looking at it over an LS1, etc.

Few questions:

1) Will this engine bolt to my existing transmission? If so, would it even be a good idea to use it? Or would I want something stronger? If so, what?

2) Would the existing axles be strong enough?

3) Any "hidden" gotchas with a swap like this?

I'm an intermediate mechanic, but my buddy has a garage and is pretty advanced... just looking to spec this all out before I dive into rebuilding the GC engine.

Thanks...

@Digger84 what is a 2 wire CCD bus vs a 1 wire PCI bus? I assume you're talking about the ECU? I'm getting the V8 + ECU... that change anything? I'm guessing what you're saying is that I won't be able to use the existing cluster (don't really care that much about the airbag) using this engine + ECU. That right?

Also, what is a BCM, SKIM and GC? Sorry... just not familiar with all these acronyms :-(

Thanks!

There were three iterations of bus communication on the OBD2 Jeeps

A CCD twisted pair on 97-2000 TJ
A PCI single wire bus on 2001-2006 TJ
A CAN bus some high speed and some low speed mandated by Feds on all the newer vehicles

The BUS is how the various components like PCM (what Chrysler calls its ECM or ECU) and BCM and Cluster and SKIM and airbag module and on newer cars most everything else from door locks to window motor to radio
