The infamous blower switch, but not the usual problem

So I replaced my switch a while back after I lost fan speed 3 and 4 and it was fine a while but then cut out. And it turned out that I could bring it to life when I pushed the wires a certain way with the dash apart. So I figured that little connector was at fault in some way. Yesterday I pulled it all apart, still ran when I pushed the wires. I undid all the prong connectors out of the plastic thing and now can't get it to run at all and I seem to have no power to those wires. Checked the fuse in the glove box it's fine. Even put a new one in just in case. What gives??

I would check the 3 wire connector on the back of the mode switch. One of the wires from the speed switch goes over there & it is common to see that connector melted around that (middle) wire & you lose all speeds. When you move the wires on the speed switch it also probably moves that wire to the mode switch as well & may get it to make contact (temporarily).
