Think my transfer case is shot

Getting alot of vibration from the front and no 4 wheel drive (high). When I shift it into 4 low its grinds and vibrates even harder. Anyone in lowwer ny upper NJ have an extra one laying around. 97 sport, 4.0 and all stock.

Check your linkage adjustment. The linkages are notorious for going out of adjustment and causing transfer case problems. I would at least check that out before assuming an expensive transfer case replacement or rebuild.

It seems someone here had the same problem. Was working fine before the big snow today. I'll get the linkage checked first though.

Still haven't gotten my Tj to the shop to check the Transfer Case. We have been getting hit with storms in the North East like crazy. I had to park on a pile of ice (no other option). The next day I got stuck. I said for the hell of it let me try and see if my 4WD will work. It shifted from 2WD to 4WD with little to no resistance. I shifted it back to 2Wd then back to 4WD. I felt resistance and it engauged for a brief time, enough to get mo off the ice. The it started kicking and grinding and I shifted back to 2WD. Still hoping its the linkage and hoping that this was a good sign.
