Throttle Body IAC Housing

Both 98 and 99 are 2.5l.

I've been chasing down an engine code on the 98 for a while, so I've been swapping out parts from the 99 wrangler into the 98 wrangler that's experiencing issues... I've noticed that the 99 IAC housing has a larger diameter hole in it for a larger/different IAC. The 99 still has the "2.5L" stamp on the housing, so I know it hasn't been changed to a 4.0 by the previous owner. However, I do have a 4.0 TB lying around, and it seems as though the housing for the IAC on the 4.0 is the same as the 99 TJ 2.5.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? The 98 is definitely smaller in diameter, but is the 99 housing the same as a 4.0 IAC housing?

I'm wondering because the sensors are much more expensive for the 98 than the newer style 99 (almost double the price, but have the same connector). I thought maybe swapping the 4.0 to the 2.5 TB and then using a newer style 99 on the 98 TB might work.

If not, oh well.

I don't want to revamp a dead threat, but I bought the sensor and found the answer to my own question by testing it out!

It doesn't work.

The '99 2.5l housing is exactly the same as the 4.0 housing of the same years (besides for the stamp). The problem I found is that the connector is slightly different on the newer style plug. It's the same pin count, and same exact shape. It slides into the '98 harness perfectly, but won't stay in. It won't click. I held the harnesses together while it idled, but it still didn't like it, even when in contact with the pins. So the harness on the engine side is different for sure, but the ecm might also be adapted for that newer style sensor as well. Looks like the '98 will be sticking to it's original parts.

Just wanted to make sure people didn't get any false ideas from this thread, and wanted to clear up any confusion. Thanks.
