Throttle Position Sensor - Should I go with genuine Chrysler?

On my old Dakota, a mechanic on the site I posted on for years had put a TPS sensor from Autozone on an oscilloscope and found that while it technically "worked"...it did not work as the genuine Chrysler ones were designed to work. Basically...while your vehicle would drive, the signals were WAAAAY off between the two which caused a few weird quirks. While most average drivers wouldn't notice the difference, there was a difference.

So my question is...is this the same for Wrangler TPS sensors or am I perfectly fine with going to Autozone/Advanced/Napa/etc for sensors...especially the TPS, which I think I need due to mine behaving like it may be worn out/dirty.

Thanks folks!

67 bucks? Dude...you got ripped...lol

Autozone has em for $43 here...it's around $60 (+ shipping) if I go through a dealership though. Well that's a site I buy through...not sure what I can get one for with my employee pricing at work. Prolly bout what you paid for yours.

42.99 here for mine, just replaced it last week, bought from autozone.
This must be a common problem on wranglers... However, my factory tps was reading
correct then would stop, fire a code, then would start working again and sometimes fire a code... Quirky, replaced with autozone one and haven't had code since, about 500 miles on it so far.
Plus, my autozone said lifetime warranty.

Hrrmmm...mine hasn't thrown any codes for it. I've noticed that I cannot maintain engine speed under 1100 RPMs though. It idles around 500-600 RPMs (or somewhere around there)...and if I lightly press on the gas, it'll stay there, stay there, stay there...and then jumps up to 1100 RPMs. So I let off to try and ease it down and hold it around 800-900 RPMs and it immediately drops back to idle. Is this definitely a TPS issue...I'm not sure...but I think it very well may be.

I also think that's part of the reason why when I'm cruising down the road at say 25mph (without cruise control on...since I don't have it), it's really jerky since it keeps accelerating/returning to idle as I press and release the gas to just slightly alter my speed.

is it weird to shift, when mine went out I had to press the gas to keep up rpms and then shift and it was a pita

I hear ya there...while at the bar right before I bought my Jeep I was asked why I was trading in my truck and I replied back that it was falling apart. My friend/mechanic was there with us and he goes, "Bullshit! You're just so f'n anal, every time you hear a pop or a click, you swear your truck is going to explode unless you fix it! I've never heard a truck drive as quiet as yours!"

My idle is slow to fall at times...but usually it drops like a rock, though not as bad as jdub2k5's it appears.

Like most everyone, I hate to buy anything from the dealerships because most stuff is way overpriced... but when it comes to electronics and sensors I do buy OEM.
Glad you guys have had good sucess with after market but I can't bring myself to do that on those items because I want to be sure everything is electronically compatible dowm to the last ohm.

They are "compatable" In many cases the components are from the same supplieers and just repackaged. In the case of the TPS, it is just a simple potentiometer.
