Since I don't see this as a sticky in the tech section and the search bar does not seem to like me, what are the factory fluid types and amounts for 4 cyl, 5 speed, rears, transfer case

Thanks in advance :)

Guys thanks for the links, just what I was looking for, realty should be in tech section sticky

OK so without starting a huge debate, trans is using gear oil, not atf or 10w30 like I have seen referenced

GL4 75W-90 or Redline MT-90 gear lube would be ideal, a good synthetic 10W-30 motor oil would be nearly as good in your AX-5 transmission. No worries about the seemingly disparate viscosities, they're all actually very similar. Engine oil and gear lube viscosities are measured on two different viscosity scales. And no, don't use ATF, it doesn't have the required shear strength.

I hate to drudge up an old thread but figured it would be more appropriate than starting a new one. I've never serviced the fluid in my AX5, and have a small leak. I wanted to check the levels and top it off until I can get the seals replaced. So, am I ok with using the 10W30 suggested in the above post regardless of what is actually in there now?

Jerry thank you for the confidence! So I stopped by O'Reillys after work today and picked up a quart of their "finest" 10W30 synthetic. Got home, had to figure out the best way to contort myself to get the plug out and cobbled up a tube apperatus to top it off. First thing, I'm not even sure if I got the right one - I circled it in red. I'm hoping this was right because I pumped the entire quart into that thing! How in the hell are you supposed to stick a finger in that thing to check the level anyway? So, according to what I've researched it takes almost 3.5 quarts which means my tranny was over a 1/3 low? Damn no wonder I got shimmy in 1st and reverse was getting gummed up. I did put it in the right place, right?
