Hey whats up you guys. I've had my Jeep for nearly three years and for the past year it has a hard time starting for some unknown reason. I've gone through forums on forums to no answer to what it could be. Took it to the dealership no answer. The motor will crank and crank and crank. After several tries (It varies it could start first try one day then take 10 minutes to start the next) it will finally fire up. I've put in a new CPS, gotten new plugs and wires, new fuel pump, and still no answer. I've looked into the computer and maybe its faulty and could be rebuilt by private companies? Any ideas please throw my way it would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on taking it to Adam's Jeep of Maryland which are supposedly the guys you wanna go to for the Mid Atlantic region but its going to cost soooooooo much money to just find the problem. Any who any ideas you got throw them my way, much appreciated!!!

Since the starter "cranks and cranks and cranks" the engine normally as he described it doing in his first post, it's not caused by a bad battery.

Try this tomorrow morning after it sits all night. Before turning the ignition switch to Start, cycle the ignition switch On-Off-On 6-8 times in a row, pausing in the On position a second before shutting it off each time. Then turn it to Start and see what happens.

If the engine starts right up after you do that, the problem is in the fuel pump assembly which is letting the fuel drain down out of the engine's fuel rail through a leaky check valve. The length of time it takes to start after that is how long it takes the fuel pump to get the fuel back up to the fuel rail.

I don't care that you installed a new fuel pump already, especially if it was a store brand, Airtex, or Spectra... all of those are known for problems either right after installing them or soon after. For fuel pumps, I only recommend Bosch or Mopar.

They start insidiously, just a tad longer and they get worse and worse as it goes on. Mine finally got to the point of requiring the key be cycled on-off-on 12 times before it would start reliably. That was after having installed a new Spectra fuel pump assembly only 13 months earlier. I switched it to a Bosch 4-5 years ago and it can sit for weeks but start right up.
