Tow Dolly Jeep help

Hello
I am preparing to tow my 06 Wrangler Sport, manual, lift with 35s about 200 miles. I was wanting to rent a Tow Dolly but my concern was how to do it correctly? The Jeep manual is saying NOT to use this...

Can I put the Tranny in Neutral and tow it safely? and thoughts will help tremendously! Thank you

you will have to disconnect the rear drive shaft if you plan on using a dolly. if you dont you will have a very large bill to pay. if this is only a one time tow thenpull the driveshaft...if you are going to be doing more then once then look into flat towing...flat towing is the best way to go if u can

Any advise on how to load the jeep on a car trailer? Jeep is not running...

do the dolly...un hook your driveshaft (5 minutes) and hang it off to the side under your jeep with the shaft still in the tcase with a strap..have done it numerous times and never an issue...just make sure you undo the shaft after you put it on the dolly and before you take it off so stuff doesent roll away from you. easy peasy

Just make sure it is strapped up good if you leave it in the t-case. The t-case end is a slip joint and there is nothing holding that end together except the rubber boot (if it's still there).

nope...it wont make a difference because there is now no mechanical connection between your axle on the ground and the transfer case...the Heep will roll free...as long as your front wheels are on the dolly and the rear shaft is disconnected you are good to go...p.s..make sure your ebrake is not on...that would totaly suck

Mildly unrelated but it may be something to think about; if you tow your jeep a lot with a dolly, I believe uneven tire wear would be a concern? Those things aren't cheap. Maybe pick up a set of takeoff rims from Craigslist(got mine for 20 bucks) and two bald tires from a junk yard just for the transportation?

i would never dolly tow all the time...i would only do this as a one time event....flat tow or on a trailer is the best way to go...

For a little more than renting the dolly you could rent a trailer [the best option] or you could buy, rent, barrow a tow bar and flat tow it with all four wheels on the ground. [main trans in gear transfer case in neutral and steering unlocked] I tow mine for many miles this way

Agree owners manual says not to use dolly but as transfer case oil pump is on rear output and with tc neutral and tranny in gear don't see what front dolly would hurt. However a rear dolly that spun front wheels and left rear wheels still would be very bad for the transfer case

For me I just unlock manual hubs all four wheels put transfer case and tranny in gear and with any two or four wheels on the road I know only the hubs are moving so front or rear dolly not an issue for my tj

If it's not running, use a winch or come-a-long to load it. I loaded a 1949 Lincoln on a trailer using a come-a-long. A jeep would be easy

If you can tow a YJ with the same 231 transfer case and a CAD with transfer case in confirmed neutral and auto in park or manual in gear per owners manual I cannot see how a cad is any different than a dolly from the perspective of the transfer case

Only difference is letting the front driveshaft free shell under viscous drag and you could simulate that by removing front driveshaft while front on dolly

If front tc output being disconnected from front axle turn while vehicle is rolling my front manual hubs would have caused damage long ago as would the tc in my cad yj

On my way with the tow dolly rear drives haft removed and tied up. Wheel unlocked.
We are going to travel up a pretty steep mountain should I be concerned about the Jeep like jack knifeing on the way down. Just take it slow? Advise?

should be just fine as long as your tow vehicle is as heavy or heavier then the vehicle you are towing. ...wheelbase of your tow vehicle makes a difference also..if you are towing with a truck no worries....using another jeep well then that takes a little more attention. Not sure if the uhaul dollies have surge brakes or not some do some dont..take your time and get a feel of whats behind you and all will be well....i dont want your next post to be of a picture of the yard sale that resulted because u made a booboo...know what I mean
