Tragedy 2

Ok I posted about my seized up tires. Here's a little more detailed info. My 4wd lever will not go all the way down to 2wd. When you try to drive it its hesitant and the most unnerving noise I've ever heard comes from around the transfer case. If you keep on with it and try to hear it or figure out what's really seizing the clutch starts smelling like its tryin to burn so you have to stop. Anyone have any idea what my problem may be here. Because I'm at the point I want to have someone sink it in a pond and report it stolen. I've never been so aggravated with a vehicle!

Who could pass up on such a title????

Does it work if you leave it in 4HI?
Have you unhooked the linkage and manually put it into 2HI to make sure the gearing shift is complete?
Are you sure the sound is coming from the transfer case and not an axle that perhaps has bearings that you are trying to smash between the teeth?
Does it roll in N or with the clutch pushed in while the jeep is off? If so, does that create the same horrific noise or smooth as silk and quiet as a church mouse?

Ok we'll just investigated more now that I'm calming down. It's letting me put it through all drive gears. Front tires have one spot where the bind and make awful noise

Maybe you could disconnect the front driveshaft. I know this wont help with the binding but maybe you will be able to determine whether it is the Transmission/T-Case or if the problem lies withing the front end.

By some miracle I put it on four jack stands. Got the 4wd selector back in place(it had jumped out on the piece that comes out of the transfer case. Cranked it up and put it in gear. All the tires spun. Put it back on the ground. And magically everything was fine. I think some mud just got in the wrong places. And that linkage came off the handle
