trailer wiring question

I have a 2002 TJ and I am trying to connect a 5-way flat trailer wiring harness. I'm not sure which wires to tap. Does anyone know the color codes for right turn, left turn, brake, reverse, and ground? I would just by a T-connector and plug it in, but they don't come in 5-way.

Before you cut or tap into any wire you might want to check into the Trailer plug kits for that model, I got mine at a truck accessory place here in town it ties into the driver side tail light section of the wires either in the plug of in a factory coupling there If you are able to get one this is the beat way. I have found over the years that if you tap into the wireing with a universal kit it will oxidize over time and will travel up the wires. I ended up replacing all the wireing from the cab back on a Ranger I got to rebuilt that this happened to. Heres a couple of links of what Im talking about.

Just a Thought

I agree with Odhinn that you might want to look further to find a five way connector that will work with your existing electrical system. I'm pretty certain they are out there. I know the 4-way and the 7-way are popular but there are many RV dealers who have online stores from whom you can get the right part. I was able to buy my last wiring hookup for my '04 from Mopar and the price was reasonable. Hope that helps.

Even if you can't find a five pin do what I did get a 7 pin and then make an adapter with two ends and the wire needed. If I remember the auto parts store even has some premade adapter for that very same thing.

OK, I'll try the local auto parts stores and see what they have. I would like to use a t-connector if I can get an adapter for it.

The color code for the wiring will be in the package when you buy your 5 way flat connector.

Why the hell someone put a 5-way flat connector on my trailer I'll never know. After spending hours looking for a T-Connector that goes to a 5-way flat and talking to guy at Napa, I decided to look at the wiring on the trailer. The fith wire doesn't go anywhere. What a pain. Well it's back to Napa for my T-connector to 4-way. Thanks for the help.
