Automatic or manual?
Lifted or not?

i have the same problem ... could be numerous things

input / output speed sensor

water in the tranny

clutches worn

are you hard on it? have you been in any water that could have gotten into it? do you wheel it? beat on it? what model jeep? year? tranny? etc

give us as much info as possible

I was told by my friend who just finished training to be a jeep mechanic at the dealership I go that my input / output speed sensor need to be replaced and that it would also explain why my rpm n speedometer go out every now and then.

Is this something I can change myself? if so know of any good write-ups on it?

Its a 99 I havent taken it too hard offroad for about 4 months I havent gone through anything deeper then a 4 inch puddle its also an automatic

from what you described about your recent driving, i think your friend is correct in assuming the I/O speed sensor ....

they can be a little tedious to change as the space is tight

i am assuming it is a 6 cyl = you have a Chrystler 999 (or more-aptly named the cry-stler 666 ) transmission.

one sensor on the input shaft and one on the output shaft ...

i dont know of any write-ups
