Transfer case linkage

So ive had the issue of popping out the linkage to the shifter in the jeep while trying to get to 4Hi. I also haven't gotten into 4lo as far as I can tell. Looked and it appears that the linkage is bent.

Is this supposed to be bent or not? If not how do I get it off? Is it just press fit in on the rocker side as well?

Thanks!

It's just called the transfer case shifter linkage. You might be able to find a used linkage from someone who has replaced theirs with a better shifting cable actuated shifter linkage like from Savvy Offroad.

But the question is how did the shift rod get bent in the first place? If the transfer case 4Lo gears aren't meshed properly when you attempt to shift them, they're not going to shift no matter how hard the lever is pulled. You sometimes have to shift back to 4Hi and move a few inches or a foot so the gears will mesh properly to allow you to shift into 4Lo.

So I'm thinking someone didn't know that and just kept pulling and pulling to shift into 4Lo when the gears weren't positioned properly which bent the shift rod. Which would not be fixed by installing a smoother operating cable shifter since it too depends on the gears being positioned properly to allow themselves to go into the 4Lo position. When the gears are properly aligned, it's an easy shift into 4Lo. When they're not aligned/meshed properly, it's normally impossible to shift into 4Lo. A short roll in 4Hi is normally needed before it'll be ready to shift into 4Lo.

yea thats what i've tried to do every time getting into 4lo but i think my problem was that being bent it was unable to apply the correct pressure to the transfer case or just the length necessary. Ive owned it since september and when I popped it the first time and went to put it back into place, the pin was in the position about an inch from the end which i assume is adjusted from the PO for the curve.
