Transfer Case Noise Low Range

Well still learning about the TJ. (97 TJ 4.0 5sp). Last weekend did alot of low range crawling and am getting lots of gear noise when in low range. Is this normal? I like the gearing, 456 in axels, with ARB lockers. Used 2nd even on steep hills, went right up. Don't have history from prior owners. In high range there's no howls from gears, just low range. All imput appreciated. Thanks.
