Transfer Case Shifter-HOT!!

Ok, this may be nothing but I have to ask. The PO of my 2004 sport replaced the stock Transfer Case shifter with an aluminum one. I have noticed that after driving for awhile (say 45-60 mins) the shifter knob becomes very hot. Any ideas if this is normal or if I should be looking into something.

I also notice that the plastic console around the shifter/cup holder etc. gets warm under the same conditions.

Would be interested in any thoughts or if this is just normal. No other symptoms other that a slight rattling in the transfer case, which I read is pretty normal and can be fixed.

Thanks,

Yeah my jeep get hot my brothers jeep gets hot I think most people's do get pretty warm but I toils be a bad cat that is giving off extensive heat. My brother put some thick heat shield under his carpet it's like adding a inch of extra carpet and it has cut down on his heat.

Sounds like yours is vehicle heat related. I had a billet shifter on my 94 and after parking at school all day in the sun I could barely touch it to drive home.

You guys realize that the center console, cup holders, and transfer case shifter are all right above the transmission, so it's most likely the heat from the transmission

That is fine, I figured it was normal but wanted to check in and see if others had the same issue. I am going to replace the transfer case knob to something that is a bit better insulated. Also, I like the idea of putting some extra heat shielding under the carpet.

Are you really talking about the transfer shifter or the transmission shifter?

The PO did some mods and removed the stock handle and put an aftermarket bare aluminum handle. Looks pretty cool, but gets hot. Hence the original post. Will put up some pics.

I believe you, I've just been pondering ideas on how to change mine.

Interesting. I have driven my Jeep to school and back probably 4 times now, 3 hours each way. My transfer shifter and console have never gotten hot as far as I can remember...
