Transmission fluid

I bought a 2000 TJ 5spd 4.0, what transmission fluid should I put in it? My mechanic put gear oil in it and now it shifts pretty rough, I want to drain it and refill with proper fluid

Mt-90 by Redline, or MTL. MTL is a little bit thinner, and if your jeep doesn't see a lot of fluctuation in temperature throughout the year (as in extreme cold or heat) is a better choice. But really, they're both pretty much the same. Your tranny will shift like butter!

X2 on Redline MTL, that is good stuff. The MTL is more appropriate for 2000 and newer NV3550 and NSG370 transmissions, MT-90 is more appropriate for the AX-15 used in '99 and older or the AX-5 used behind the 2.5L four-banger.

It's not easy to find Redline MTL or MT-90 locally, about the best/fastest/cheapest source of it is www.summitracing.com

Thanks for clearing that up, Jerry. I have the ax-15 in mine and used Mt-90, but wasn't sure if the newer transmissions liked MTL better. grubnad, if you have any racing shops near you, they should carry it. If you go on Redline's website, you can use their find local dealer feature. I was able to pick up the fluid a few miles up the road from me and saved myself a hefty shipping cost and the wait.
