transmission help

2000 tj sport 4.0 .I have finished changing trans fluid and filter and adjusting the bands {both sets} the trans still jumps out of gear when cold in first gear only.It does not slip at speed and goes in and out of passing gear as it should.I have a haynes manual but it shows a completely different linkage for the shifter. I would appreciate any ideas.

Just went through this with my 06 rubi lj, automatic...fiasco....had to take it to my tranny guy twice in two weeks.....they replaced the solenoids first time and then it started gradually repeating the problem....adjusted the bands and added a tranny cooler per a bulletin from Jeep that the 42rle tranny requires a cooler...just got back from a weekend away at the beach and it seems to be behaving well now. I am not sure but I dont think your 2000 has the same transmission as my 06

tanny mystery

thanks for the reply. This is my first time into a 4WD. I live in jonesboro AR. and I have to check around to find a shop that works on jeeps that I can trust.I have a hard time letting any one else work on my vehicles anyway.I also would like to know if there is a better service manual than the haynes one that I have.

Did you ever figure out the problem? Mine is doing the exact same thing and I was going to start with doing transmission fluid and filter as well
