Transmission issues?

My uncle owns a '00 TJ sport with an automatic transmission. He says that he is having some issues with the transmission going into "D." He said when he is driving it, it feel almost like it doesnt know when to shift, possibly something to do with overdrive? Is anyone familiar with these symptoms? Is it something that could possibly be fixed by flushing the transmission and putting some new ATF in. Im not sure when it was last serviced. Thanks as always guys

I'm sure you checked for a burned smell and the fluid level right? If so I'd try a flush and fluid change.

I didnt personally look at it, I just took his word for what was wrong with it and told him to see what I could find out. I figured the first place to start would be to do a fluid change, just curious if there were any other suggestions.

Transmission before 03 is a 3 speed no overdrive unless it's been replaced with a newer one I believe. Not for sure on that but it's a 3 speed on my 01 TJ. So don't ream me if I'm wrong haha
